What is Homestay?

Homestay is living with a Canadian family while you study in Canada.  You are welcomed and treated like a member of the family.  

In Canadian homestay, you will   experience English immersion with a host family that will enjoy helping you learn spoken English faster.

You will experience Canadian culture in a supportive, safe, and clean environment.

Both you and your host can enjoy learning about each other's countries, foods, and customs. 

What Beacon Does Differently:

 We guarantee our placements.   We protect our Client's homestay fees. We provide ongoing service for each student for as long as he/she is in our homestay program.

 We provide support and information to all our host families.  We assist in the creation of outstanding homestay experiences and happy memories of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Beacon's History and Beginnings:

Betty Laboucane created Beacon Home Stay in 1999 as the result of her experiences with foreign students.  For more than 20 years prior, Betty had  hosted students in her own home and made many life-long friends.  These experiences led Betty to perceive a need in the homestay market for a more comprehensive service package for foreign students and host families.  

Beacon Home Stay™  represents Betty's experience and insight as a host and as a homestay coordinator.  Beacon Home Stay policies address both student and host issues.  They are comprehensive and have proven to be effective.  Quality host families and a strong service package have made Beacon Home Stay a trusted name in Edmonton's homestay industry. 

As Beacon Home Stay became more well-know, its list of top-quality host families continued to grow.  Clients from many countries world-wide have come to Beacon for homestay accommodation.  Many have extended their stays for a year or more.

Today, Beacon Home Stay remains one of the largest and most respected homestay companies in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  We provide homestay accommodation for students attending Grant MacEwan College, NorQuest College, English Link ESL School, Universal English College, Nait, and several others who recommend our program to students coming to Edmonton for study.
